Chapter 01

This is old Explosive Shot, not the modern bomb

League Classic AP Tristana uses a targeted five-second Explosive Shot damage-over-time effect, Rocket Jump damage and the old +150% AP Buster Shot. There are no Explosive Charge stacks, no four-stack detonation and no modern E-triggered jump reset. Riot's Classic preview treats AP Tristana as a real old-kit archetype, while the live 26.19 JADE record controls the numbers on this page.

  • Classic E

    DoT + Grievous Wounds

  • Classic W

    Reset only on takedown

Chapter 02

Only W, E and R carry AP damage

Rocket Jump deals 70/115/160/205/250 (+80% AP), Explosive Shot's active deals 110/150/190/230/270 (+100% AP total) over five seconds, and Buster Shot deals 300/400/500 (+150% AP). E's basic-attack last-hit shrapnel adds 50/75/100/125/150 (+25% AP). Rapid Fire has no AP ratio; it supplies attack speed for a reachable Lich Bane auto or structure pressure.

  • Draw a Bead adds 9 range per level after level 1 to basic attacks and Explosive Shot: 550 becomes 703 at level 18.
  • Rocket Jump reaches 900. Buster Shot remains 550 and does not inherit Draw a Bead in current Classic.
  • Buster Shot damages the selected target and knocks that target plus nearby units away; collateral damage is not claimed without a live test.
  • W

    +80% AP

  • E active

    +100% AP total

  • R

    +150% AP

  • Q

    No AP damage

Chapter 03

Explosive Shot pressures the target and moves the wave

Start E for a targeted 550-range trade with a 16-second cooldown. Its active applies 50% Grievous Wounds for the five-second damage window, so potions and other healing are weaker while the mark is running. Its passive is just as important: every unit slain by Tristana's basic attack explodes into nearby enemies, which creates push even when the lane plan wanted a freeze.

  • Basic-attack last hits trigger the shrapnel; the current tooltip does not promise it for spell or item-damage last hits.
  • Use the forced push for a crash, ward, recall or roam instead of pretending the wave can always be held in place.
  • Player reports said some Spellblade last hits failed to trigger shrapnel; Riot's 26.19 notes fix the explosion not triggering when bonus damage kills a minion.
  • Active E

    Poke + 50% heal reduction

  • Passive E

    Last-hit shrapnel pushes

  • Recovery

    Weaker during the mark

Chapter 04

E > W > Q is a documented template, not a solved law

The shipped example opens E, W, E, W, E, R, finishes E first, W second and Q last, with ultimate ranks at 6, 11 and 16. It uses Flash/Ignite, nine Magic Penetration Marks, nine Armor Seals, nine scaling AP Glyphs and three flat AP Quintessences: +9 penetration, +9 Armor, +32.4 AP at level 18 and +15 flat AP.

  • The 21/9/0 mastery split is an editorial template; no exact full talent page is presented as a Riot-validated best page.
  • Armor Seals protect physical lanes and minion trades; current community specialists also use scaling Health as a separate matchup choice.
  • Patch 26.16 fixed Spellsword's 5% AP magic damage on basic attacks; that mastery is not the same system as Lich Bane Spellblade.
  • E > W > Q

    Example priority

  • 9 Marks

    +9 Magic Penetration

  • 9 Seals

    +9 Armor

  • 3 Quints

    +15 AP

Chapter 05

Deathfire Grasp has a Rod problem, not a three-shop script

Amplifying Tome plus one Health Potion costs 470g and starts the documented DFG route. The completed 3100g item requires Fiendish Codex, Needlessly Large Rod and a 680g combine cost. A clean 1600g recall can take Rod; a smaller recall should buy Codex, Boots or another useful component instead of hiding the missing Rod behind the phrase 'complete DFG next.'

  • Fiendish Codex costs 820g and gives 30 AP plus 10% CDR; the starting Tome upgrades into it for 385g.
  • Boots cost 325g. Their timing competes with Rod progress and depends on lane access, not a fixed shop number.
  • DFG gives 120 AP and 10% CDR; its 60-second active deals 15% maximum-Health magic damage, then amplifies subsequent magic damage by 20% for four seconds.

Chapter 06

The amplified combo activates DFG before landing

Once DFG is owned, the documented burst begins Rocket Jump, activates DFG during the flight as soon as the target enters active range, then lands W under the four-second amplifier. Apply E before R, because Buster Shot can knock the target out of E's 550 range. If Lich Bane is built and the auto is safe, weave its next-basic-attack hit before R; Ignite remains optional true damage, not DFG-amplified magic damage.

  • Using DFG only after Rocket Jump lands gives up the amplifier on W's own magic damage.
  • E lasts five seconds while DFG lasts four; static data does not prove whether every DoT portion snapshots or checks the amplifier dynamically.
  • The mid-air input is shown in live 26.15 gameplay and relevant 16.16 spell values are unchanged, but exact active range and queue behavior still deserve a controlled live test.

Chapter 07

The reset is conditional, so plan the failed jump

Rocket Jump refreshes only when Tristana gets a champion kill or assist. It does not refresh because the old Explosive Shot finishes its duration, reaches a modern-style stack count or detonates as a bomb. A delayed E kill can still produce a takedown reset, but until the takedown actually happens W remains on its long 22/20/18/16/14-second cooldown and cannot be treated as a guaranteed exit.

  • Before jumping, check enemy crowd control, the landing tile, available mana, DFG/R readiness and whether Flash or Zhonya covers a failed threshold.
  • Buster Shot can be the finisher, but its knockback can also peel or separate the target from follow-up damage; do not cast it automatically.
  • Current static data confirms W cannot be started while rooted, but it does not settle every mid-air crowd-control or wall fallback interaction.
  • Takedown

    W refreshes

  • No takedown

  • Failure cover

Chapter 08

Choose items by the job, not one six-slot screenshot

DFG is the one-rotation amplifier, Sorcerer's Shoes add 15 flat Magic Penetration, and Deathcap raises all three AP damage ratios. After that, visible resistance favors Void Staff; a safely reachable basic attack can justify Lich Bane; predictable return damage favors Zhonya. Seeker's Armguard is the early physical-lane component rather than proof that every game must finish the same six items.

  • Haunting Guise and Liandry add flat penetration, Health and a burn branch, but E-tick refresh behavior remains unverified in live runtime.
  • Lich Bane primes the next basic attack after an ability; Q can open another Spellblade window, but the auto itself increases positioning risk.
  • Mejai and Mobility Boots appear in current community roam pages, yet remain lead- and route-dependent branches rather than a default promise.

Chapter 09

Turn the automatic push into a recall or roam

Because E passive shrapnel cannot be switched off, AP Tristana often moves the wave while last-hitting. Plan the crash before spending W: ward the route, take the component recall, or move only when the side lane and enemy vision make a roam real. W is both the 900-range access spell and the escape; using it to clear or cross terrain opens a long punish window for the enemy jungler.

  • Level 1 E pressure is targeted but not free: the target can return damage during the five-second mark and the spell has a 16-second cooldown.
  • At level 6, R adds a reliable burst and peel window even before DFG exists; do not write a 3100g item into every level-six fight.
  • AP Tristana's spell burst is stronger than her sustained objective damage, so a roam or pick plan is not the same as an AD carry's front-to-back job.

Chapter 10

Enter fights second and respect the counterplay

Wait for the first control spells or defensive cooldowns before committing W onto a reachable important target. Range and waveclear can keep Tristana outside E/R reach; shields, sustain and early Magic Resist raise the takedown threshold; roots prevent W from starting; spell shields, stasis and landing-zone crowd control can break the sequence. These mechanics are more defensible than the former ADC matchup list copied onto an AP-mid page.

  • Opponents can pressure the forced E-passive push, use E's 16-second cooldown and punish W's long early cooldown when the jump does not reset.
  • Potions are more effective after E's Grievous Wounds window ends, while immediate shields do not count as healing reduced by the mark.
  • Use R for peel when a dive target is not secure; knocking an enemy away can save Tristana but can also remove an ally's follow-up target.

  • Spell shield

Chapter 11

Patch 26.16 changed the surroundings, not Tristana's spell values

A direct 16.15-to-16.16 JADE comparison found no relevant Classic Tristana spell-value change, and the official Classic notes contain no Tristana entry. Patch 26.17's two Tristana entries are tooltip rewordings; the values are unchanged. The Tristana Magic Resist change on the same patch-notes page belongs to standard League, not Classic. Current Classic remains at 30 MR; copying the modern 33 +1.1-per-level line would mix modes.

  • Patch 26.16 fixed Spellsword AP scaling and reduced the AP contribution to Classic turret damage from 40% to 20%, so launch footage can misrepresent both systems.
  • Still open: W's conflicting 2.5/3-second slow text, DFG/E snapshot behavior, Liandry refreshes, DFG active range and the complete in-flight CC matrix.
  • The 26.19 bonus-damage fix answers part of the E-passive/Spellblade reports; whether it covers every reported case is not settled.
