Category 1

Getting started

What Classic actually is, where to find it, and what era it recreates.

1.1

What is League Classic?

League Classic is an ongoing live mode inside League of Legends that rebuilds the feel of early League on the old Summoner's Rift. It restores older champion kits, items, runes, masteries, pacing, and progression while running on Riot's modern infrastructure.

1.2

Is it an exact copy of Season 3?

No. Season 3 is the anchor, but Riot describes Classic as a collection of early League's greatest hits rather than one preserved patch. Some rules, champions, and balance values deliberately differ from any single historical version.

1.3

Do I need a separate client or account?

No. Classic is free inside the normal League client and uses your existing Riot account. Its gameplay progression is separate, but you do not install or register for another game.

Category 2

Playing & progression

Queues, unlocks, ownership, and the systems that replace modern ranked.

2.1

Does League Classic have ranked?

Not a traditional ranked ladder. Classic launched with one PvP draft queue, Co-op vs. AI, and custom games. Summoner's Journey unlocks at Classic level 10 and provides its own climb from Salt to Legend.

2.2

How do Classic Levels and Influence Points work?

Classic has its own level track and uses Influence Points, the old currency often shortened to IP. Playing advances your Classic level and earns IP for mode-specific unlocks such as champions and runes.

2.3

Do my champions and skins carry over?

Champions you already own can be used in Classic when they are part of the current roster; others can be unlocked through Classic progression, its shop, or the free rotation. Many owned skins work too, while Classic Skins recreate older appearances.

Category 3

Classic vs. current League

The old rules that matter in a match, and the modern conveniences that remain.

3.1

What feels different from current League?

Classic has sharper champion strengths and weaknesses, higher spell costs, slower mobility, longer crowd control, and fights where mistakes are harder to erase. Modern reliability remains underneath it, including current matchmaking, performance improvements, pings, spell buffering, and optional WASD controls.

3.2

Are old runes and masteries really back?

Yes. You build the old 30-slot rune page and spend 30 mastery points across three trees. Riftback documents every rune and all 56 mastery talents with their current Classic values.

3.3

Which retired items and jungle systems return?

Classic restores the early shop and jungle ecosystem rather than applying a visual skin to modern rules. This site currently documents 152 items, the old jungle item lines, camp values, Smite, and practical clear routes.

3.4

Do champions use their old abilities?

Many do. 45 of the 72 currently documented champions use pre-rework kits, while others use versions selected specifically for Classic. Each champion page separates the Classic ability from how its current-League counterpart changed.

Updates & the future

How the live mode changes, how champions arrive, and what the Council controls.

4.1

Will Riot add more champions?

Yes. Classic launched with 60 champions and Riot has already begun expanding the roster. New arrivals are announced through official updates; this page intentionally does not maintain a speculative future list.

4.2

What is the Classic Council?

The Council is Riot's community-voting system for selected decisions about Classic, including the order of future champion additions. A vote informs a defined choice; it is not a promise that every balance or roadmap decision will be put to a poll.

The Council & the road ahead
4.3

Does Classic receive balance patches?

Yes. It is a live mode, not a frozen museum build. Riot adjusts champions, progression, runes, and quality-of-life features; Riftback currently tracks patch 26.19 and keeps confirmed changes in one changelog.

4.4

Can I look up reliable Classic win rates?

Not through Riot's public Match API at the moment. That means sites cannot verify full Classic win, pick, or ban rates from official match-history data, so this site's tiering is editorial and explains the reasoning behind every placement.
