Chapter 01

Quick answer: Classic vision is a hybrid system

League Classic 26.19 is not a frozen Season 3 ward system. Every player gets a deliberately limited Yellow or Red Trinket, while 75-gold Sight Wards, 125-gold Vision Wards, Sightstone charges and the 400-gold Oracle's Elixir remain relevant. Start by deciding whether the next play needs ordinary sight, a check for enemy wards or true detection of invisible units.

  • Yellow

    Free · 60s sight

  • Red

    Free · 8s ward reveal

  • Sight Ward

    75g · 180s sight

  • Vision Ward

    125g · sight + detection

Chapter 02

Yellow and Red are free, weak baselines

Yellow Trinket places one invisible ward for 60 seconds, recharges in 240 seconds and starts the match on a 90-second cooldown. Red Trinket also starts on a 90-second cooldown, then has a 150-second cooldown and reveals enemy wards in one fixed area for 8 seconds. Red does not move with its owner, and its live tooltip does not promise champion or trap detection.

  • Yellow · 60s ward

    240s recharge · 90s start CD

  • Red · 8s reveal

    150s cooldown · 90s start CD

Chapter 03

Bought Sight and Vision Wards last three minutes

A Sight Ward costs 75 gold and places an invisible ward that grants ordinary area vision for 180 seconds. A Vision Ward costs 125 gold, is also invisible and lasts the same 180 seconds, but additionally reveals invisible units in its area. The extra 50 gold buys detection, not more duration. Either ward stacks five to an inventory slot. Neither consumable behaves like a modern visible Control Ward.

  • Sight Ward · 75g

    Invisible · 180s sight

  • Vision Ward · 125g

    Invisible · 180s detection

Chapter 04

Sightstone turns shop visits into repeatable vision

Sightstone costs 800 gold, grants 180 Health, holds 3 ward charges and refills whenever its owner visits the shop; no purchase is required. Its wards last 180 seconds, and at most 2 wards placed from this item may exist at once. That limit is explicitly Sightstone-specific. It does not establish a global cap for every consumable, trinket or other ward source.

  1. Ruby Crystal

    475g

  2. Sightstone · 800g

    180 HP · 3 charges

  3. Shop refill

Up to 2 from this item

Chapter 05

Ruby Sightstone is a trade-off, not an automatic upgrade

Ruby Sightstone combines Sightstone, Heart of Gold and 75 gold for 1,700 total. It keeps their combined 380 Health, stores 5 charges and raises the item-specific live-ward limit from 2 to 3. Completing it consumes Heart of Gold, while Ruby has no 5-gold-per-10 passive. Upgrade when the third ward, two reserve charges and freed inventory slot beat the lost income and other uses for 900 more gold, such as Oracle's.

  1. Sightstone

    3 charges · 2 placed

  2. Heart of Gold

    200 HP · 5 gold / 10s

  3. Ruby · 1,700g

    380 HP · 5 charges · 3 placed

Chapter 06

Explorer and Wriggle add two more ward sources

The Utility-tree Explorer mastery, after Biscuiteer, grants one Explorer's Ward at the start of the game; its current client ward lasts 180 seconds. Scout gives wards 25% more vision range for their first 3 seconds. Wriggle's Lantern and its Feral Flare transformation each retain a separate ward active with a 180-second cooldown and a 180-second ward. These are useful extras, not substitutes for detection.

  • Explorer

    One opening ward

  • Explorer's Ward

    Not a shop purchase

  • Scout

    +25% early vision range

  • Wriggle's Lantern

    180s active · 180s ward

Chapter 07

Use Red, Vision Ward and Oracle's for different jobs

Red Trinket is a free, stationary eight-second check for enemy wards in a suspected area. A Vision Ward spends 125 gold to hold one area for three minutes while revealing invisible units there. Oracle's Elixir spends 400 gold to carry nearby detection with one player for up to four minutes. The Oracle carrier can inspect several zones, but only if the team can enter safely and protect that investment.

  • Red Trinket

    Enemy wards · fixed area · 8s

  • Vision Ward

    Invisible units · fixed area · 180s

  • Oracle's Elixir

Invisible units · mobile · up to 240s

Chapter 08

Vision belongs to the team, not only the support

Every role receives a trinket and can convert 75 or 125 gold into information that lasts longer than Yellow. Sightstone gives a support repeatable coverage, but two active item wards do not cover every lane, jungle entrance and objective route. Decide who can place the next ward without losing a core timing or walking into fog alone; low support income makes shared purchases especially important in Classic.

  • Every player

    Use the free charge

  • 75g coverage

Buy when 60s is not enough

  • Support cycle

    Repeatable, not total coverage

  • Budget matters

    Protect support income

Chapter 09

Build objective vision in a safe six-step cycle

Name the next objective, push or stabilize the nearby wave, then visit the shop early enough to refill Sightstone and buy the required consumables. Enter river or jungle with teammates instead of sending the detection carrier first. Clear the pit and relevant approach, then place wards to answer three questions: has the objective started, where is the enemy jungler approaching, and which flank can reach your carries?

  • Choose the next objective and recall before the setup window.
  • Enter together, clear suspected enemy vision, then place your own.
  • Cover the pit, the most relevant approach and the dangerous flank.

Chapter 10

Against stealth, trust the detection tooltip

Ordinary Sight Wards, Yellow, Sightstone, Ruby, Explorer and Wriggle list vision but not invisible-unit detection. Vision Ward and Oracle's explicitly reveal invisible units; Riot also identifies Vision Wards and turrets as answers to Akali's Twilight Shroud. Red's live tooltip promises only enemy-ward reveal, so do not substitute it for Pink or Oracle against an invisible champion unless a controlled live test proves that exact interaction.

  • Akali Shroud

    Needs real detection

  • Vision Ward

    Stationary detection

  • Oracle's

    Mobile detection

  • Red

    Tooltip: enemy wards only

Chapter 11

Keep confirmed limits separate from runtime questions

The live client confirms a maximum of 2 active wards from Sightstone and 3 from Ruby Sightstone, plus one stored Yellow charge. It does not expose a trustworthy global limit shared by consumable, trinket, Sightstone and Wriggle wards, nor exact ward-kill rewards or whether Oracle's ends on death. Current community reports about stale Sightstone counters and Red revealing traps are useful test leads, not mechanics this guide presents as fact.

  • Confirmed

  • Confirmed

  • Not documented

Chapter 12

Current on patch 26.19

The 26.19 client still carries the launch costs, durations, charges and limits of these vision tools. The context that matters is still Akali's Twilight Shroud and the resulting need to distinguish ordinary sight, ward reveal and invisible-unit detection. Before leaving base, ask what must be seen, how long the information must last, who can place or carry it safely, and whether Ruby's extra capacity is worth consuming Heart of Gold.
