Chapter 01

You start with 475 gold, and every common start spends almost all of it

League Classic starts every champion with 475 gold; the Wealth mastery adds 40 or 75 on top once Greed is maxed. The usual opening packs are priced to leave nothing behind: Doran's Blade costs exactly 475, Doran's Ring plus two Health Potions is 470, Doran's Shield plus one potion is 475, Boots with four potions is 465 and Cloth Armor with five is 475. Choose the pack for the first three minutes of the lane, not for the final item on a build page.

  • Doran's Blade

    475 · nothing left

  • Ring + 2 pots

    400 + 70 = 470

  • Shield + 1 pot

    440 + 35 = 475

  • Boots + 4 pots

    325 + 140 = 465

  • Cloth + 5 pots

    300 + 175 = 475

Chapter 02

Doran's items buy stats now; component starts buy the second shop

Doran's Blade gives 80 Health, 10 Attack Damage and 5 Health per basic attack. Doran's Ring gives 60 Health, 15 Ability Power, 3 Mana per 5 and 4 Mana per unit kill. Doran's Shield gives 100 Health, 10 Health per 5 and blocks 8 damage from champion basic attacks. None of them builds into anything. A component start is weaker on the first wave but is already part of the first recall: Faerie Charm and Rejuvenation Bead at 180 gold each finish Philosopher's Stone, a second Faerie Charm feeds Chalice of Harmony, Cloth Armor at 300 opens the armor line and Sapphire Crystal at 400 leads to Sheen, Glacial Shroud or Catalyst the Protector. Take Doran's when trades before the first recall decide the lane; take a component when the lane is quiet or the champion needs a specific 700–900 gold item early.

  • Doran's Ring

    Stats now, builds into nothing

  • Faerie Charm + Bead

360 · just over half of Philosopher's Stone

  • Doran's Shield

    Blocks 8 per champion attack

  • Cloth Armor

    15 Armor · keeps building

Chapter 03

Passive gold starts at 1:30 and minions pay 19 or 14

Patch 26.16 moved the start of passive gold from 65 to 90 seconds and set it to 10.5 gold per 5 seconds until minute 15, then 11.5 and 13 at minutes 15 and 25. Melee minions are worth 19 gold instead of 20 and ranged minions 14 instead of 15; the cannon minion's value is not documented. Passive gold is worth 126 gold a minute from 1:30 onward wherever you stand, which adds up to roughly 1,070 gold by minute ten before a single last hit. Plan the first recall around the wave you can actually clear, not around gold you hope to collect.

  2. 02

Chapter 04

Recall when the gold buys something that changes the lane, not the biggest thing

The Classic shop is full of components that matter on their own. Boots of Speed cost 325, Vampiric Scepter adds 400 on top of a Long Sword, Philosopher's Stone combines for 340, Chalice of Harmony for 120 and a second Doran's item costs 400 to 475. Each of those changes a lane immediately. Waiting for a 1,600-gold item pays for the walk back anyway and adds every wave you were too poor to convert into an item. Recall when the wave is pushed toward the enemy turret and the gold covers a real purchase plus potions and a Sight Ward.

  1. Boots · 325

  2. Vampiric Scepter · +400

  3. Philosopher's Stone · +340

  4. Sight Ward · 75

Chapter 05

There is no early Homeguard, so the walk back is the real price of a recall

Patch 26.16 removed the Homeguard that Classic launched with; it now activates at 15 minutes. Until then a recall costs the channel, the full walk at base movement speed and every minion that dies while you are gone. That is why Boots on the first recall is a timing decision rather than a stat purchase, and why the recall should happen on a pushed wave rather than on a wave that is about to hit your turret.

    1 · Push the wave

  2. 02

    2 · Recall

  3. 03

3 · Walk at base speed

  4. 04

Chapter 06

A death before level nine costs 10 to 29 seconds plus the walk

Since 26.16 the death timers at levels 1 to 8 are 10, 12, 14, 17, 20, 23, 26 and 29 seconds; they were 12 to 30 before. Timers only start scaling with game time at minute 25, so inside the first ten minutes the level value is the whole timer. A level-3 death is 14 seconds dead plus the walk back, and the enemy takes the wave and the push for free.

  • Level 1–4

    10 / 12 / 14 / 17 s

  • Level 5–8

    20 / 23 / 26 / 29 s

  • Plus the walk

Chapter 07

Mana is a budget: count casts per wave, then buy the regen that covers them

Doran's Ring gives 3 Mana per 5 plus 4 Mana per unit kill, Faerie Charm 3 Mana per 5 for 180 gold, a Mana Potion 100 Mana over 15 seconds for 35 gold, Chalice of Harmony 7 Mana per 5 that rises by 1% for every 1% of missing Mana, and Philosopher's Stone 9 Mana per 5 with 7 Health per 5 and 5 gold every 10 seconds. Before leaving base decide how many spells the lane allows per wave and buy the item that funds that rhythm. Clarity has a 135-second cooldown; the mana problem in Classic is solved with items, not with a summoner slot.

  • Doran's Ring

    3 MP5 + 4 per kill

  • Faerie Charm

    3 MP5 · 180

  • Mana Potion

    100 over 15 s · 35

  • Chalice

    7 MP5 · scales with missing Mana

Chapter 08

Sustain comes in three shapes: per hit, per five seconds and per charge

Doran's Blade heals 5 per basic attack, so it rewards auto-attack trades and farming. Doran's Shield and Rejuvenation Bead heal 10 and 5 Health per 5 seconds regardless of what you do, and the Shield blocks 8 from each champion basic attack. Crystalline Flask holds three charges of 120 Health and 60 Mana over 12 seconds and refills on a shop visit, which suits lanes with several short recalls. Vampiric Scepter gives 10% Life Steal for 800 gold total and only pays on a farm-heavy lane. Match the shape to the damage you expect: Shield against basic attacks, Flask or potions against poke, Scepter when the lane is about hitting minions.

  • Per hit

    5 Health on-hit

  • Per 5 s

    10 HP5 · blocks 8

  • Per charge

    3 × 120 HP + 60 Mana

  • Per minion

    10% Life Steal

Chapter 09

Your first free ward lands at 1:30; the paid ward covers the gank

The Yellow Trinket starts the match on a 90-second cooldown, places a 60-second ward and recharges every 240 seconds, so its free wards fall at 1:30, 5:30 and 9:30; an Explorer page starts with one Explorer's Ward on top. The 1:30 ward expires at 2:30, which makes it a check on the enemy's start and on invades, not gank insurance. A Sight Ward costs 75 gold and lasts three minutes, and that is the ward that covers the river once the enemy jungler has finished a buff. Classic does not expose first-spawn times, so take the gank window from the jungle guide's route logic rather than from a fixed clock. The vision guide covers Sightstone, Vision Wards and Oracle's for the rest of the game.

  1. 1:30 – 2:30

    Start and invade check

  2. 75 gold · 180 s

  3. 5:30 · 9:30

Chapter 10

A kill is worth more in tempo than in gold

Classic has no objective bounties, and a champion kill pays a flat base bounty and First Blood adds a bonus. What a kill really buys is the enemy's missed wave, the free push into their turret and a recall that costs you no minions. Treat first blood as a timing window: shove, reset, ward and come back with the item before the enemy does.

  2. 02

    2 · Shove the wave

  3. 03

Chapter 11

Turrets got tougher in 26.16, so early dives return less

Outer turrets now have 3,500 Health instead of 3,000 and inner turrets 3,750 instead of 3,250. Champion damage to turrets is 100% of total Attack Damage plus 20% of Ability Power, down from 40%. A dive or a fast first-turret plan built on Season 3 memory underestimates the tower by 500 Health, and an Ability Power champion contributes half of what it used to. Early pressure should be spent on the wave, the ward and the recall timing rather than on the turret itself.

  • Outer turret

    3,000 → 3,500 Health

  • Inner turret

    3,250 → 3,750 Health

  • AP to turrets

    40% → 20%

Chapter 12

The ten-minute checklist

Pick the start pack for the first three minutes. Name the component that justifies the first recall before the game begins. Recall on a pushed wave because the walk back has no Homeguard. Know that a death costs 10 to 29 seconds plus that walk. Choose the mana item by casts per wave. Place the Yellow Trinket at 1:30, 5:30 and 9:30 and carry a 75-gold Sight Ward on every return.

  • 475 gold, one pack, at most a potion's worth left over.
  • First recall buys a lane-changing component, not a 1,600-gold item.
  • Passive gold from 1:30; minions pay 19 and 14.
  • Death timers 10–29 seconds before level 9; no Homeguard before 15:00.
