Jax's consecutive basic attacks continuously increase his Attack Speed.

Coming from current LeaguePressing R does nothing.

There is no active button; the defensive layer is E timing plus health from AD/AP items, not a resistances active.

Remembering Jax in 2013There is no dodge RNG, and Q was not swapped back to Empower, contrary to what a player might expect from the oldest Jax kit.

Both are explicit design decisions.

History & Notes

Released 2009-02-21, one of the original forty champions. Classic ships the pre-rework kit, frozen at patch 3.13.24. The modern game plays a different champion, compared under “Vs. modern”. Riot's next 3 balance steps after the freeze are listed below.

What the freeze preserved here is not any single patch's Jax. Counter StrikeCounter StrikeEActive: Jax enters Evasion for 2 seconds: a defensive stance that causes him to dodge all incoming non-turret basic attacks and take 25% reduced damage from all area of effect abilities sourced from champions. Counter Strike can be recast after 1 second, and does so automatically after the duration. Recast: Jax deals physical damage to nearby enemies, with the total damage increased by 20% for each attack dodged, up to a 100% increase, and stuns them for 1 second. is the 2012 rework: dodge every basic attack, then damage that scales with how many were dodged, plus a stun. It sits beside a passive from before 2012, an EmpowerEmpowerWActive: Jax empowers his next basic attack or Leap Strike against an enemy within 10 seconds to deal additional magic damage to his target and nearby enemies. Empower resets Jax's basic attack timer. that still hits everything around the target, and an ultimate with no active on it. That combination never shipped together in a live patch. This mode carries no random dodge stat, and EmpowerEmpowerWActive: Jax empowers his next basic attack or Leap Strike against an enemy within 10 seconds to deal additional magic damage to his target and nearby enemies. Empower resets Jax's basic attack timer. was not moved back to the slot the oldest kit had it on; both are decisions, not leftovers. The pricing is Classic's own too: Season 3's ultimate is a button and charges 100 mana for it, while this one costs nothing at any rank because there is nothing to press, and Leap StrikeLeap StrikeQActive: Jax dashes to the target unit's location. If the target is an enemy and they are in range upon arrival, Jax deals physical damage to them. Jax can cast any of his abilities during the dash. runs 17/14/11/8/5 seconds against Season 3's 10/9/8/7/6, far slower at rank one and quicker at rank five.

The live game kept tuning the champion this kit had already forked away from, and set against the steps listed below Classic's Jax lands outside them. He is under both health figures at 506 with 83 per level, and over both armor figures at 25.5, while his 3.2 armor per level falls between the two.
